Mya

Mya has been doing very well with her training. Her previous owners had not worked with her for around 5 years. So with that in mind Mya is doing wonderfully. I am quite pleased with her. I have discovered she is sweet heart. Loves being around people. And of course she loves treats! I saddled her for the first time. She was a perfect angel. Didn't blink an eye. I think she is going to make a wonderful riding horse!

The clouds were so pretty tonight!

Mustangs

Have you ever looked into adopting an American Legend? A mustang? I admit it is one of my dreams to do so one day. Along with adopting an off track thoroubred. But some how the wild mustang has caught my eye. If you follow this link (https://www.blm.gov/adoptahorse/onlinegallery.php) it will take you to the gallery of a onling BLM mustang adoption. I believe it starts in 7 days. But they post pics of a ton of different mustangs that you can look at. I think its fun to just scroll through and look at these amazing animals. :) Maybe one day I'll actually get to take one home...

Trail Ride!

With the weather being a little bit warmer I decided to give Mya the afternoon off, and I headed over to a friends house for a trail ride. I must say there is nothing quite as relaxing as riding through the woods on a sunny afternoon. And taking pictures of course!

^ such a pretty boy!

You never know!

Owning a horse really is a journey. Its full of many different paths to take. I always wonder if I've chosen the correct one. Will it lead me somewhere I want to go? But if I never tried, I am sure that would be even worse. Like the old saying, "Its better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.". (not that I've lost anything!) Just saying I'm putting my best foot forward into this adventure!
You never know what great things could happen! :)

The Name

And of course I should tell you all her name. So... her name is Mya! (and in case you are wondering, that is the name she came with.) :)

Getting to know Her.

Its been really interesting owning this horse. She can be sweet but she can be sour at times as well. More sweet though. One thing I am really pleased with about this horse is that she has never offered to kick or bite. She is very safe on the ground. She is certainly a mover though. I looked out the window earlier and she was running laps around the pasture. Just for the fun of it! It was quite fun to watch her go. I plan to eventually do jumper type stuff with her, but maybe she'd make a better barrel racer!

Just spending time getting to know her.

The First Ride

So after lunging her for several days, I was just dying to get on her back. Nothing fancy, just feel her moving under me. That feeling when you get on your first horse for the first time. Aw. And amazment. And finally having it hit you that you really own this amazing animal. So without further ado. A pic of our first "ride".

Settling In

The new horse is settling in well. Eating a ton, is pretty much all she does. Looks like she'll be needing a hair cut aswell. Her mane is all matted. But she has a sweet eye. And she certainly isn't going to be a "dead" horse. She has plenty of spunk and spirit!

The newcomer..

She's a mover, and an eater. Never seen a horse run and eat so much in my life! I guess she deserves the food. Poor thing is so skinny. She seems to be sweet. No biting or kicking. So thats good! Her running is probably that arab coming out in her. The previous owner told me she was mostly quarter horse with a little arabian in her.
Lesson 1
Who's directing who?

The Horse

The name of the horse was Mya... And boy she did not look good. Kinda scrawny and really thin. "Free". Thats what the lady said. Well okay guess you can't really haggle on that price. So she came home with me. One eye-sore, hungry, 12 year old mare. And she was mine. My first horse ever. (February of 2012)

First night at her new home and she running around like crazy. I reckon she was a little bit scared. New place. New people. But food. She saw food. Blessed food! Maybe this wasn't gonna be such a bad place after all. I just watched her. I had no clue what so ever what she was like. Could I even ride her? I guess I'd find out soon enough...

The Start

Well Hello! I guess this is where I will start. Mainly I'm making this blog so that I can look back and see what I have done in my journey with horses. Feel free to come along. This could be a wild ride. So long for now!
